Resident of Zugdidi detained by border guards in Abkhazia
The Abkhazian law enforcement bodies have launched an investigation into a criminal case against Georgian citizen Malkhaz Tsurtsumiya, suspected of illegal crossing of the border.
Malkhaz Tsurtsumiya, a citizen of Georgia, a native and resident of Zugdidi, was detained by officers of the State Security Service of Abkhazia and the Border Guard Service of the Russian FSB in the Gali District at the checkpoint "Ingur" while he was attempting to enter Abkhazia from Georgia, the State Security Service of Abkhazia reported on February 28.
The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on April 5, 2017, Abkhazian border guards detained Archiko Rogava, a 59-year-old Georgian citizen, and his 25-year-old son Paata. On August 1, 2017, the court recognized them as violators of the border and sentenced them to two years of imprisonment. On December 8, 2017, it became known that Archiko Rogava was released from prison. His son, also accused of rendering resistance to border guards, stayed in prison.
