Magomed Khazbiev's relatives not allowed visiting him

An investigator has not allowed oppositionist Magomed Khazbiev to be visited by his relatives at the SIZO (pre-trial prison), an advocate reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from March 12 to 20, Ingush oppositionist Magomed Khazbiev was on a hunger strike at the Karabulak SIZO to protest against conditions of detention and refusal of medical examination.

Magomed Khazbiev, who arrived in Ingushetia from Chechnya, was arrested on January 11 on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms and insulting a law enforcer. On January 25, Khazbiev's advocates said that his state of health had deteriorated in the SIZO; and the activist himself complained about the "fascist" custody conditions.

Magomed Khazbiev is under the doctors' supervision and he is returning to the normal diet. He does not voice any new complaints about the conditions of detention, but investigators refused him family visits at the SIZO, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Aslan Archakov, an advocate of the oppositionist.

The defender treats the refusal in relatives' visits as unjustified. "Even old father of Magomed Khazbiev, who suffers from cancer and who has not seen his son for nearly four years, is refused visits to him. Meanwhile, the refusal is not explained in any way," said advocate Aslan Archakov. He has added that the defence is preparing a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office of Ingushetia against investigators' refusal of family visits for Magomed Khazbiev.
