Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh honour memory of victims of "April war"
In Nagorno-Karabakh, local residents laid flowers on the graves of the victims of the 2016 "April War" to pay tribute to their memory. In the Tumi village of the Hadrut District, a cross stone was installed in honour of killed officer Suren Melkumyan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 2-5, 2016, there was an aggravation of the Karabakh conflict, and after that the parties announced a ceasefire. However, during the following year, the shelling was not stopped even for a day.
The action "Sleep peacefully, we'll continue your fight" is held for the second time on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs for Nagorno-Karabakh.
"On April 2, young people from all regions of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) visit all 29 graves of the people killed during the four-day 'April war' of 2016 and buried in the territory of our republic," said Ani Kaplanyan, an official from the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs.
"For young people, such actions are a lesson of courage. And the understanding of what those heroes had done for the Motherland will help the young people to choose the right way in their life," said Armine Petrosyan, the chair of the NGO "Hayki Serund" (Hayk Generation).
According to her, the NGO "Hayki Serund" keeps in touch with the families of the deceased soldiers and arranges meetings for psychological support.
Nelli Airapetyan, a widow of soldier Rudik Movsisyan, has noted that "the initiative of young people to visit the graves of the deceased soldiers and the attention of the public gives her and her two daughters, as well as other families, the strength to survive their grief."
