Rally in Ingushetia demands direct election of republic's head
About 500 people went to an unsanctioned rally in Magas, the capital of Ingushetia, demanding direct election of the head of the republic. They handed their demands over to the Speaker of the Parliament of Ingushetia.
The action was organized by the Teips' Council of the Ingush people. Law enforcers had warned the organizers of the rally about the inadmissibility of extremist statements, but the only demand of the rally was to return the direct election to the head of Ingushetia, which is enshrined in the constitutional law, Musa Albogachiev, one of the organizers of the rally and a co-chairman of the Republic's Public Movement (RPM) "Mekhk-Kkhel", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The organizers of the action insist that the head of the republic be elected, not re-appointed, said Daud Garakoev, the chairman of the Executive Committee of the Ingush National Congress.
The election of the head of Ingushetia will be held in September 2018. On May 24, Yunus-Bek Evkurov said that he was ready to head Ingushetia once again, if the Russian president suggests his candidacy for voting in the parliament.
Participants in the rally held posters reading: "We have the right to elect president of Russia, not the head of Ingushetia – why?"
