Baku analysts report capture by Azerbaijan of strategic heights in Gyunnyut area
The restoration of control over the heights in the vicinity of the village of Gyunnyut gave the Azerbaijani Army a strategic dominance that can be used in the event of a new war in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani military experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe. According to their version, the Azerbaijani Army has obtained a direct review of the strategic road connecting Armenia and Iran, 80 kilometres off Yerevan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 8, the press service of the Independent Combined Army of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of Azerbaijan announced the restoration of control over the village of Gyunnyut and the surrounding heights. Residents of the village were able to visit the graves of their relatives in the local cemetery.
"Not only did Azerbaijan return to his earlier posts, but in May it moved even further and thanks to operative marches found itself higher than Armenian positions," said Azad Isazade, a military expert and a former employee of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Speaking about the significance of the military operation, the expert pointed out that it allowed to the Azerbaijani Army to come to the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
The Azerbaijani Army has advanced there virtually without a military operation, said Uzeir Djafarov, the head of the NGO "Military Journalists".
In the opinion of Togrul Djuvarly, the head of the Azerbaijan National Public Committee for European Integration (ANPCEI), Russia, which has influence on both parties in conflict, may become interested in the recent escalation.
Let us remind you that Artsrun Ovannisyan, the press secretary of the Armenian MoD, said that the Armenian party had itself allowed civilians to approach the village of Gyunnyut.
