Sources tell plans to nominate Vasiliev as head of Dagestan

Russian President Vladimir Putin will nominate Vladimir Vasiliev for the post of the head of Dagestan, sources report. Political scientists warn about the intensification of the "anti-colonial discourse" in the republic under Vasiliev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the election of the head of Dagestan is scheduled for September 9.

Vladimir Vasiliev was appointed the acting head of Dagestan on October 3, 2017, after the former leader, Ramazan Abdulatipov, announced his resignation.

The information that Putin will present Vladimir Vasiliev to the MPs of the People's Assembly (Parliament) of Dagestan as a candidate for the post of the republic's head was confirmed by a source in the government of Dagestan, as well as by two sources close to the republic's parliament. Officially, so far, the administration of the head and government of Dagestan have not commented on this information, the RBC (RosBusinessConsulting) reported on June 21.

According to Dmitry Fetisov, a political consultant, the federal centre expects from Vasiliev to continue combating corruption in Dagestan and further "cleansings".

The preservation of Mr Vasiliev in power in the republic will lead to strengthening of the model of external management of financial flows in Dagestan, and increasing of the "anti-colonial discourse among local elites," the RBC quotes Denis Sokolov, the head of the RAMCOM Research Centre.
