Sochi streets flooded on eve of FIFA World Cup quarterfinal match
In the Adler District of Sochi, the streets were flooded by water after the rain. Heavy rains will also fall on July 7, when a quarterfinal match of the FIFA World Cup between Russia and Croatia is to be held in Sochi.
Today, the rain has flooded a 300-meter section of the federal road A-147 "Dzhubga-Sochi" in the Adler District of Sochi. In the area of the petrol station and the "Fara" shopping district, the road is flooded, and traffic towards the city centre has been stopped. The system of water disposal does not cope with the volume of water, the "Kubanskiye Novosti" reports with reference to the press service of the "Chernomorye" Road Department.
According to the Sochi Mayoralty, in the Adler District, low-lying roads were flooded after a third of the monthly rainfall volume fell during an hour. "A powerful tropical rainstorm passed from the city centre of towards Adler. The centre of the city did not suffer. In the Adler District, the federal road was flooded, and there is information about a small flooding in the area of Gastello Street," reported an official from the City Mayoralty as quoted by the TASS.
At 9:00 p.m. Moscow time on July 7, the quarterfinal match of the FIFA World Cup between Russia and Croatia will start at the "Fisht" Stadium in Sochi.
