Giorgi Margvelashvili announces date of presidential election in Georgia

The election of the Georgian President will be held on October 28, 2018, Giorgi Margvelashvili, the current leader of the state has reported today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Georgia, the presidential election is scheduled for this autumn, but the exact date has not been reported until today. Earlier, members of the ruling party have promised to present their presidential candidate in late August.

The election of the Georgian President, scheduled for October 28, will be the last election to be held by direct vote, as follows from the amendments to the Constitution of Georgia. The President will be elected not for five, but for six years due to the transition to a parliamentary model of government and the election of the state leader by the Parliament since 2024.

"The next presidential election will be held on October 28. The decision has been agreed with the Prime Minister," announced Giorgi Margvelashvili as quoted by the "Sputnik-Georgia".

Today, David Usupashvili, the former Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, has stated that Giorgi Margvelashvili himself does not intend to run for President of Georgia again, the TASS reports.
