Rostov journalist killed in Africa becomes winner of "Laurel Branch" posthumously
The jury of the "Laurel branch" awarded the prize to Rostov resident Alexander Rastorguev, who was killed in the Central African Republic (CAR) together with his colleagues while they were working on a documentary film.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 31, it became known that Orkhan Djemal, Alexander Rastorguev, and Kirill Radchenko were killed in the CAR while working on a documentary film about the private military company "Wagner".
Alexander Rastorguev was a member of the grand jury of the "Laurel Branch" and repeatedly won the prize, the administration of the "Laurel Branch" award reported.
"These days, the council of the 'Laurel Branch' award was to determine a winner of 2018 for contribution to the film chronicle. The council, consisting of 11 leading figures of the documentary cinema sphere, pronounced the unanimous decision to award Alexander Rastorguev posthumously," states the report.
The awarding ceremony is scheduled for December 12, the closing day of the International Documentary Film Festival "Artdocfest", reported the website of the "Laurel Branch" on August 2.
