Body of Azerbaijani resident evacuated from Karabakh conflict zone
Today, the body of a man found in a neutral strip between positions of the armed forces of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan, was handed over to the Azerbaijani authorities with the mediation of international organizations.
The body was found on August 12 to the east of the dwelling settlement Akna (or Agdam in the Azerbaijani language), the Nagorno-Karabakh State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons has reported.
With the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the office of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan have agreed on the transfer of the body. "A humanitarian operation to evacuate the body from the neutral zone to Azerbaijan was conducted," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent quotes the message of the above State Commission.
For two years, the shelling in the conflict zone has not stopped even for a day; it follows from the infographics "Nagorno-Karabakh after the truce: A two-year war" published by the "Caucasian Knot". In the morning on August 12, Azerbaijan reported 86 bombardments of its positions from the territory of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh during the last 24 hours. The next morning, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) counted 79 shelling episodes, committed, in particular, during the daytime on August 12.
