Residents of Chechnya note increase in spending for celebrating Kurban-Bairam
Today, Muslims celebrate the first day of the sacrifice holiday Kurban-Bairam. Residents of Chechnya tell about increased prices for sacrificial cattle. In their turn, the republic's authorities report about their help to the poor.
The Kurban-Bairam (Eid al-Adha) is a holiday of sacrifice in memory of the decision of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son. This is one of the two main Muslim holidays; it is celebrated 70 days after the holiday of Uraza-Bairam (Eid al-Fitr).
Traditionally, religious events on the occasion of Kurban-Bairam began with sermons and festive namaz (prayer) in all mosques of Chechnya. The believers praised Allah and his prophet Muhammad. Besides, on this day, Muslims are spreading alms, visit relatives and friends, the "Grozny-Inform" reports.
Residents of Chechnya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that prices for sacrificial animals are always greatly overstated during the first two days of the holiday.
On the eve of the Kurban-Bairam, the authorities allocated 23,000 small livestock heads to the poor families in Chechnya and Ingushetia. Besides, more than 30,000 sacks of flour, sugar and rice were distributed, the office of the head and government of Chechnya has reported.
However, the recipients of the aid have treated it as insignificant.
Let us note here that the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, and his family are now in Saudi Arabia, where he performs the Hajj.
