On Eid al-Adha days, Caucasian Muslims give meat to the needy

Over 3.5 tons of sacrificial meats were donated by volunteers from the "Solidarity" Foundation to the people in need in Chechnya, Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, and also in Tatarstan, Bashkiria, in the camps of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and in the Gaza Strip. About 10,000 people got donations in the days of Eid al-Adha, reported Khava Tataeva, a coordinator of the special programmes of the "Solidarity" Foundation.

The Kurban-Bairam (Eid al-Adha) is a holiday of sacrifice in memory of the decision of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son. This is one of the two main Muslim holidays; it is celebrated 70 days after the holiday of Uraza-Bairam (Eid al-Fitr).

Khava Tataeva has noted that the "Solidarity" Foundation has been holding charity events in various regions of the Caucasus for the past 10 years to distribute meat to the poor in the days of Eid al-Adha. According to her, this year, the funds raised to purchase meat for the needy amounted to 2.5 million roubles.

"We have not yet counted the number of people who donated their money for distributing meat to those who needed it. The people used various ways to transfer their money to our charity foundation. The action is sponsored by Muslims not only from the Caucasus, but also from other regions of Russia, including the Volga Region, the Urals, and Moscow," Khava Tataeva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
