Resident of Stavropol Territory convicted for attempt to join Syrian militants
A court in the Stavropol Territory has sentenced a local resident, detained at Nalchik Airport while trying to go to Syria, to five years in prison.
"Having watched a lot of clips on the Internet, the man began taking interest in the developments in the Syrian Arab Republic, by justifying the actions of militants of illegal armed formations (IAFs). He had already bought a ticket to fly to Egypt and subsequently cross the Syrian border," says the message of the press service of the Predgorny District Court of the Stavropol Territory.
The man was found guilty under the articles "Getting ready for a crime and attempting to commit a crime" and "Organizing an IAF or participating therein", the TASS quotes the message of the press service.
Islam Aliev, the convict, had wanted to take part in the war for the establishment of an Islamic state, the "Interfax" informs with reference to the court.
