Khazbiev complains to ECtHR about his custody conditions
The Ingush oppositionist Magomed Khazbiev has complained to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about inhuman treatment and unjustified isolation, said his advocate.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after coming to Ingushetia from Chechnya, where he was under state protection, Magomed Khazbiev was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons and insulting a public official.
In his complaint, Magomed Khazbiev claims violation of the prohibition of inhuman treatment, as well as of his rights to freedom and personal inviolability, and of respect for private and family life (Articles 3, 5 and 8 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms), his advocate, Andrei Sabinin, writes in the message, received by the "Caucasian Knot".
Khazbiev was exposed to overly tough isolation measures, since investigators have failed to justify the need to keep him in custody; while keeping him a the cage, as a dangerous criminal, serves an instrument of unlawful influence on the court and undermines the principle of presumption of innocence, the lawyer Sabinin cited excerpts from his client's complaint in his message.
The Khazbiyev's right to respect for private and family life was violated when he was not released from the SIZO (pre-trial prison) to say farewell to his dying father. The defendant was not able to attend the funeral and the mourning events, but he was not given an opportunity to otherwise say good-bye to his father, says the today's report posted on the website of the "Agora" Human Rights Group.
