Georgia's Ombudsperson tells about beating of Otinashvili arrested in South Ossetia

Maya Otinashvili, a resident of the Georgian village of Khurvaleti, was arrested in South Ossetia for ten days, the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) has reported. After being detained, the woman was beaten up, the Georgian Ombudsperson has stated.

The 'Caucasian Knot' has reported that Otinashvili, 37, was detained on September 29 near the village of Khurvaleti in Georgia. According to the South-Ossetian State Security Committee (SSC), she helped residents of South Ossetia and Georgia to illegally cross the border for money.

"She called for help; but they dragged her by force ... She just came there to collect the harvest," said Nino Lomdjariya, the Georgia's Ombudsperson, citing the eyewitnesses, the "News-Georgia" reports.

Otinashvili's relatives assert that she was beaten up after arrest.

Mamuka Bakhtadze, Georgian Prime Minister, has stated that efforts to return the detainee to her family are taken on the round-the-clock basis.
