Georgian woman refutes her beating after detention on South-Ossetia border

The Georgian resident, who was arrested in South Ossetia, has stated that she had not been subjected to physical violence after detention. She was arrested for one month, the court has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Maya Otinashvili, 37, was detained on September 29 near the village of Khurvaleti of the Gori District of Georgia. According to South Ossetia, she helped residents of Georgia and South Ossetia to illegally cross the border for money. Nino Lomdjariya, the Georgian Ombudsperson, stated citing eyewitnesses that the woman was beaten up.

"The attitude to me is normal; nutrition is good. Nobody applied physical force to me. I just miss my family," said the woman.

According to her story, on October 3, the staff of the Red Cross mission visited her. They did not express any complaints about Otinashvili's custody conditions.

The border in the place, where Otinashvili was detained, is marked with signs; and she could not know that she was crossing it, the South-Ossetian KGB (Committee for State Security) has said.
