HRC "Memorial" urged to investigate allegations on falsifications in Ingush Parliament

Federal authorities are obliged to investigate the reports about falsifications at voting in the Parliament of Ingushetia, as well as to ensure the legality and publicity in the process of solving the issue of the border, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 4, protesters against changing the Chechen-Ingush border declared an endless protest. Today, thousands of Muslims have gathered for their Friday namaz (prayer) in Magas. Townspeople help visitors with food and setting tents, rally participants said.

On October 4, the participants of the rally in Magas stated that the border issue should be put to a referendum; and Yunus-Bek Evkurov should resign.

The unrests in Ingushetia, which began on September 25, were provoked by the actions of the republic's authorities, who stubbornly avoided public discussion of the Ingush-Chechen border issue, the HRC "Memorial" has stated.

"The disagreement with the border demarcation was complemented by the struggle for the observance of the norms of legality, rights and respect for the dignity of residents of the republic," the statement says.

The HRC "Memorial" has called on the authorities "not to use force against the people, who are defending their legal rights," and the protesters "not to succumb to provocations and prevent violence."
