In Vladikavkaz, protestors demand to close "Electrozinc" plant
In Vladikavkaz, residents of North Ossetia gathered for a spontaneous action against the operation of the "Electrozinc" plant.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on October 21, in Vladikavkaz, a fire started in one of the workshops at the "Electrozinc" metallurgical plant. During extinguishing of the fire, a rescuer from the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) was killed and two of his colleagues were injured. The operation of the "Electrozinc" plant was suspended. Makharbek Khadartsev, Mayor of Vladikavkaz, demanded to transfer the "Electrozinc" plant to the Urals and said that the plant was ruining the health of local residents.
On October 21, activist Tamerlan Kambolov created a petition demanding to close the plant. "In the city of Vladikavkaz, the 'Electrozinc' plant has been poisoning the environment in North Ossetia and Ingushetia for decades," states the petition. As of 6:42 p.m. Moscow time of today, the petition raised 10,132 signatures.
Today, residents of Vladikavkaz have gathered for a protest action with the demand to close the "Electrozinc" plant. The action was held near the building of the North-Ossetian government. Protestors demanded to close the plant.
