Lawyer at risk of abduction

According to some unofficial information, the life of Ms Larissa Dorogov, lawyer of the relatives of those killed during the Nalchik attack in Kabardino-Balkaria, is at risk.

Larissa herself says that she has been warned more than once that the destiny of the human rights defender Ruslan Nakhushev abducted in Kabardino-Balkaria is being prepared for her. Accordingly, she has decided to warn the public about it.

"I want people to know that my life is in danger which proceeds from Kabardino-Balkaria's law enforcement agencies. I have been more than once privately warned of that by people who work with the Internal Affairs Ministry and the prosecutor's office, but who have kept honour and conscience," the lawyer says.

Ms Larissa Dorogov claims that it is considered to be blameworthy that she protects the rights of Muslim believers in Kabardino-Balkaria and openly comes forward against their persecution.

The European Court of Human Rights is currently about to examine a complaint of the parents of Muslims killed on 13 November in Nalchik, submitted by Ms Dorogov with the assistance of the international organisation Stichting Russian Justice Initiative. Besides, Larissa is among the authors of a statement to the Prosecutor's Office of Russia and Kabardino-Balkaria which contains a demand that criminal proceedings should be launched against Kabardino-Balkaria's Internal Affairs Minister Khachim Shogenov and a number of other leaders of the Internal Affairs Ministry as those guilty of promoting with their actions the armed insurgence of Muslims on 13 November.
