Minister keeps his word, so far
Azerbaijan's Internal Affairs Minister Ramil Usubov has held police lieutenant-colonel Mamed Guliyev accountable for unfounded and rude interference in the work of journalists. The minister has demanded that relevant police agencies take measures to prevent such actions in the future. This is what the Internal Affairs Ministry's Department of Internal Investigation says in a letter to the Press Council.
The letter also contains information about the results of an investigation into facts of violence against journalists during the opposition public meeting on 9 October this year. Several legal cases against police officers have been initiated over these facts, according to the letter.
About ten journalists suffered because of police violence during last public meeting dispersal. The Azerbaijani Internal Affairs Ministry promised to look into those facts.
