US Department of State concerns about violations at election in Georgia
The US authorities are satisfied with the fact that the presidential election took place in Georgia, but are concerned about numerous violations on the voting day, the spokesperson of the US Department of State has stated today.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 28, the second round of voting at the presidential election in Georgia was won by Salome Zurabishvili, an independent candidate, supported by the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party. Her rival, Grigol Vashadze, and the Alliance "Strength in Unity" that had nominated him, refused to recognize her victory and demanded to hold the early parliamentary elections.
On the voting day, the opposition announced large-scale violations, including bribery of voters at polling stations throughout Georgia.
The USA are alarmed by information about numerous violations at the presidential election in Georgia, said the spokesperson for the US State Department.
"We are happy that the presidential election in Georgia passed without obstacles; however, we are alarmed by the numerous violations observed during the voting, but now we are watching very carefully how Georgians will implement their new Constitution," the Georgian Public Broadcaster quotes the spokesperson on its website today.
