Georgian musicians hold action against fences on border with South Ossetia

Dozens of people gathered on December 8 for a musical protest action, which took place in the Georgian border village of Atotsi. Activists opposed the installation of pillars with barbed wire by the South-Ossetian party.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 7, South Ossetian began installing pillars linked with barbed wire on the border near the Georgian village of Atotsi in the Shida Kartli Region. On the same day, representatives of the public movement "Strength in Unity" organized a round-the-clock post and hampered the works. Activists stated that as a result of installation of fences, residents of the Georgian village lost their agrarian lands.

On December 8, in the same place, where a border fence was installed a month ago, Georgian activists held a rally under the slogan: "No to occupation!" In particular, musicians performed the national anthem of Georgia in Atotsi, the First Channel of the Georgian Television wrote on its website.

Activists called their performance a "Musical Operation". The initiator of the action was the Georgian pianist Keti Ward (Asatashvili).

"We are sure that all normal people in Georgia were equally worried about all this. It's time to show that we can also respond to their aggression with the sounds of music," the organizers have explained.
