Chechen SC refuses to release Oyub Titiev

The court dismissed the defence appeal and left Oyub Titiev, the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny, in custody.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the court hearing held on December 10, public prosecutor demanded to prolong the arrest of Oyub Titiev.

Advocates of the rights defender asked the court to release him under house arrest. The court extended his arrest until March 22, 2019.

On January 11, Oyub Titiev was arrested on the charge of drug possession, and his case is being considered by the court since July 19. He claims that the drugs were planted to him by law enforcers.
