Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of shelling excavator near the border

The Armenian Armed Forces shelled a border checkpoint near the village of Kemerli and damaged an excavator belonging to a civilian, the Azerbaijani Frontier Service reported on January 7. The Azerbaijani party rejects the investigation mechanism of border incident, proposed by Armenia, the head of the Armenian General Staff has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 7, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan accused the Armenian party of 28 violations of the truce over the past 24 hours. Today, the MoD has announced 22 shelling attacks during the last 24 hours. According to the MoD, the enemy shelled a number of Azerbaijani villages, including Kemerli village of the Gazakh District.

The border checkpoint was shelled from the Armenian side from a rifle on January 6. At the moment, the excavator operated by the civilian was working 450 meters away from the border. The bullets hit the excavator bucket and the cab glass, says the website of the State Frontier Service of Azerbaijan.

The Armenian authorities had suggested introducing special mechanisms for investigating border incidents, but Baku has repeatedly rejected them, Artak Davtyan, the Commander of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, has stated, noting that the Armenian party is now ready to implement its suggestions.
