Daughter of arrested Rostov activist dies in hospital
A 17-year-old daughter of Anastasia Shevchenko died at a resuscitation ward in a hospital. Earlier, the activist filed a motion to cancel her house arrest in Rostov-on-Don and explained her request by the need to take care of her daughter.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 29, the Rostov Regional Court upheld the decision on the house arrest of activist Anastasia Shevchenko, despite the arguments of the defence about the need for the defendant to take her children to school and visit the 17-year-old disabled daughter in another city. At the court hearing, Anastasia Shevchenko also notified the court that her daughter had been hospitalized and added that "with her diagnosis, any sore could be fatal."
Anastasia Shevchenko was detained within a case of an undesirable organization after a search on January 21. On January 23, the Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don sent her under the house arrest. The Amnesty International (AI) has declared her a prisoner of conscience.
"The daughter of Anastasia Shevchenko died at a resuscitation ward in a hospital," reports today in Twitter the "MBH Media" with reference to its observer Zoya Svetova.
Today, the information has been confirmed by Andrei Pivovarov, the chairman of the Open Russia. "On January 29, at trial, Anastasia Shevchenko challenged her pre-trial restriction measure. At the court hearing, she also filed a motion to be allowed to visit her child. And until yesterday, January 30, she was not allowed to visit her daughter. However, we do not know if the activist managed to visit her child or not," said Andrei Pivovarov as quoted by the RBC.
