South-Ossetian delegates refuse discussing Archil Tatunashvili's case

Georgia has unsuccessfully tried to raise the issue of the death of Archil Tatunashvili, who was detained on the border. Tskhinvali complained about reports of Georgian mass media on the humanitarian catastrophe in South Ossetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that South Ossetia had earlier refused discussing the Tatunashvili's case at talks within the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms.

Archil Tatunashvili died on February 23, 2018, after being detained by South-Ossetian law enforcers, who suspected him of plotting an act of sabotage. The sanctions list drawn up by Georgian authorities is named after Tatunashvili and Gigi Otkhozoriya.

On February 8, the 91st meeting within the above mechanism was held in the village of Ergneti, Gori District. The death of the Georgian citizen, David Basharuli, was also discussed.

Georgian experts fixed traces of torture on Tatunashvili's body.

David Basharuli disappeared in June 2014 in the Leningor District of South Ossetia; his body was found six months later. Georgia demands to investigate his death.

The South-Ossetian delegation protested against Georgia's attempt to raise the Tatunashvili's case. Also, it was stated at the meeting that starting from December 18, 2018, South-Ossetian law enforcers counted 11 border violations.

South-Ossetian delegates complained about "disinformation spread by Georgian mass media; in particular, about kidnappings, humanitarian catastrophe, and that our people are starving," the "Sputnik South Ossetia" has quoted Mr Kochiev as saying.
