Astrakhan activists stand up for Anastasia Shevchenko

Astrakhan picketers, supporting Anastasia Shevchenko have demanded to release her and stop political repressions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 10, in different regions of Russia, activists held actions "March of Mothers' Rage" in support of Anastasia Shevchenko.

Anastasia Shevchenko, a member of the Federal Council of the "Open Russia", was detained on January 21 after a search of her home in Rostov-on-Don. During her arrest, her 17-year-old disabled daughter died in hospital. On February 7, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" declared Shevchenko to be a political prisoner.

About ten people took part in the picket in support of Anastasia Shevchenko in Astrakhan. They held posters: "Freedom to Anastasia Shevchenko!" and "No to political repressions!", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"I am a father of many children myself and I cannot watch how a mother of a large family suffers. It is very close to me. It would be important in any case, whether she has children or not – a blatant case, when a person was arrested for her political activeness under the repressive law adopted to persecute people for their political convictions," Mr Doliev has stated.
