Relatives of convicted Dagestani Magomed Khazamov report his convoying to Moscow
Magomed Khazamov, convicted for keeping ammunition and drugs, has been brought to a Moscow SIZO (pre-trial prison) for investigative actions, his relatives have informed. His wife associates his convoying with the investigation into the murder of the founder of the "Chernovik" (Draft) newspaper.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that last December, Khazamov, suspected of killing Khadjimurad Kamalov, was accused of possessing ammunition and drugs. According to his advocate, the search of Khazamov's house was conducted illegally; and his client was demanded to testify against people allegedly involved in Kamalov's murder. The court sentenced Khazamov to three years and one month in prison.
Raziyat Khazamova, the convict's sister, complained to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" about the non admission of the advocate to her brother in Moscow.
Khadjimurad Kamalov, the director general of the "Svoboda Slova" (Freedom of Speech) Company and the founder of the "Chernovik" (Draft) newspaper, was killed on December 15, 2011, in Makhachkala. In December 2012, Murad Shuaibov was detained on suspicion of committing the murder; he was later sentenced to 10.5 years in prison for killing the journalist, Malik Akhmedilov. Investigators found Magomed Abigasanov and Magomed Khazamov to be accomplices in Kamalov's murder.
Earlier, Magomed Khazamov stated that he had been tortured. No checks were made on this statement, said his wife.
Magdi Kamalov, a brother of the assassinated journalist, does not treat Khazamov as a participant in the murder.
