Ramadan charity action attracts Dagestanis to volunteering

The action of the movement "Companions of the Good" of the distribution of water and dates to fasting people in travel motivates young people to join the volunteer movement in Dagestan, activists have stated.

The volunteers of the movement are handing out dates and water on roads to public transport passengers, so that Muslims who keep fasting on Ramadan can observe the evening rite of de-fasting.

On May 15 only, more than 2200 people received sets containing water and dates, said Magomedrasul Gadjiev, the head of the "Companions of the Good. The action is held in all major cities of Dagestan during the whole month of Ramadan.

The "Companions of the Good" movement emerged in 2014, when Mr Gadjiev was looking for volunteers for a large-scale project of the "Nadezhda" (Hope) Charitable Foundation, where he works now, and attracted to the action his pupils and colleagues in the "Agat" Sports Club.

As of May 2019, more than a hundred people joined the volunteer movement only in Makhachkala, not counting other cities in Dagestan. New participants, according to Gadjiev, appear after the next actions.

The "Companions of the Good" are also delivering, along with the "Nadezhda" Foundation, foodstuffs to low-income families, and implements the projects of a "social gym", where children from low-income families have their training free of charge, and of a free rehabilitation centre.
