Azerbaijani MoD reports serviceman's death

A soldier of the Azerbaijani Army has died as a result of a shot from the opponent's side on the troops contact line, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed, accusing Armenia of a provocation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 9, Azerbaijan accused Armenia of 20 shelling attacks undertaken within the past 24 hours. In its turn, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), the day before, announced 250 shelling attacks committed by Azerbaijan within the past week.

"On June 9, Khalilov Elshan Vugar ogly, a soldier of the Azerbaijani Army, was killed by a shot fired by the opponent in the Tartar section of the frontline," the Azerbaijan MoD has reported.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has also accused Armenia of "another provocation" with the aim of "destroying the talks" and "increasing tensions in the region." According to the MFA, the incident occurred on the eve of the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group.
