Suspects of riots in Georgia charged
The four detainees on suspicion of assaulting policemen during the protest outside the parliament building in Tbilisi have been accused of violence, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has informed.
The Caucasian Knot has reported that on July 4, Zurab Budagashvili, Kakhaber Kupreishvili, Tsotne Soseliya and Besik Tamliani were detained on suspicion of using violence during a rally outside the parliament building. The police suggested that they were involved in a brawl with law enforcers. The protesters provoked policemen to start dispersing the rally, but law enforcers were extremely aggressive, human rights defenders have stated.
The detainees are accused under the article on organizing of, heading or taking part in group violence, the "Georgia-online" reports.
Let us remind you that protesters achieved the resignation of the Speaker of the Parliament and holding of 2020 elections under the proportional system, but their demand for the resignation of Giorgi Gakhariya, the Georgian MIA head, remains unfulfilled. Several activists went on a hunger strike.
