Russian servicemen will be guarded in Lebanon by two platoons from Chechnya
Safety of Russian bridge-building battalion in Lebanon will be secured by platoons from battalions "West" and "East" of the 42nd division deployed in Chechnya. Sergey Ivanov, Vice-Premier and Minister of Defence told about this after negotiation with his Kirghiz colleague Ismail Isakov, the ITAR-TASS informs.
"We agreed with the government of Lebanon that local military forces will also ensure the safety of our battalion," Vice-Premier told. "Besides, its safety will be ensured by two platoons of guards and one sapper platoon. The two platoons of guards are staffed by experienced contracted servicemen recruited from two battalions - "East" and "West," which make a part of the 42nd division located in the territory of Chechnya."
The idea to send Moslem peace-makers from Chechnya to Lebanon was expressed earlier. And Ramzan Kadyrov, head of the government in Grozny, assured that he would immediately fulfill the order to send military people, as soon as he gets such.
The Israeli military operation against Lebanon continued from July 12 to August 14, 2006, when a ceasefire agreement between Israel and militants from the Lebanon "Hezbollah" Lebanon grouping came into force.
