Azerbaijan reports shelling attacks on three villages in conflict zone

The ceasefire regime in the Karabakh conflict zone was violated 17 times during a day, and villages in the regions bordering Armenia were shelled, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for Azerbaijan reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the morning on July 28, Azerbaijan registered 17 shelling attacks on its positions.

During 24 hours from July 28 to July 29, the ceasefire regime was violated 17 times, and the armed forces used large-calibre machine guns and sniper rifles, the Azerbaijani MoD reports on its website today. The Azerbaijani positions came under fire in the villages of Gyzylgadjyly in the Gazakh District, in the village of Kokhanebi in the Tovuz District, and in the village of Zamanly in the Gadabay District, the Azerbaijani MoD reports. The fire came out both from the Armenian side and from the areas considered by Azerbaijan as its occupied territories, the Azerbaijani MoD's website reports.

As of 8:30 a.m. Moscow time, the Ministries of Defence for Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not posted on their official websites any comments on the statement about the shelling attacks released by the Azerbaijani MoD.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
