Azerbaijan reports shelling attacks on pre-border areas

The ceasefire regime in the Karabakh conflict zone was violated for 19 times during the last 24 hours; two villages in the districts bordering on Armenia came under fire, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the morning on July 29, Azerbaijan counted 17 attacks on its positions. In its turn, on July 28, the Armenian MoD announced the death of a contract soldier, Arman Bulgadaryan, and the wounding of another contract serviceman, Vladimir Osipyan, from the shots fired by Azerbaijani militaries.

On July 29-30, during 24 hours, the ceasefire regime was violated for 19 times, the Azerbaijani MoD has reported on its website today. The Azerbaijani positions stationed in the villages of Guschu Airym in the Gazakh District, and Mundjuglu in the Tovuz District, as well as on nameless heights in the Gadabay District, came under fire, the MoD reports. The shelling was delivered both from Armenia and from the territories that Azerbaijan considers as its occupied ones, the report says.

As of 8:40 a.m. Moscow time today, the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh had not comment on this report on their websites.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
