Azerbaijan claims shelling attacks on four villages in border areas
The positions of the Azerbaijani troops in the Karabakh conflict zone were shelled 20 times within 24 hours, and villages in the areas bordering Armenia were shelled, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for Azerbaijan reports today.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21, Azerbaijan claimed 23 shelling attacks in the Karabakh conflict zone.
Within 24 hours from August 21 to 22, the ceasefire was violated 20 times, and the Azerbaijani positions in the villages of Alibeili and Agdam in the Tovuz District and Geyali and Zamanly in the Gadabay District came under fire, the Azerbaijani MoD reports on its website today. The fire came from the side of Armenia and from the positions considered by Azerbaijan as its occupied territories, the Azerbaijani MoD reports on its website.
As at 8:30 a.m. Moscow time on today, the Ministries of Defence for Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not posted on their official websites any comments concerning the statement about shelling attacks released by the Azerbaijani MoD.
After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
