Dagestani women responded with flash mob to Khabib's words about wearing papakhas
The words of UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov that only men can wear papakhas (Caucasian wool hat), because they have the honour, have been criticized on the Facebook. Already at least 18 women took part in the flash mob by posting their photos in papakhas.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 7, in the UAE, Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated the American, Dustin Poirier, and defended his title of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion in the light-weight category.
After the victory over Poirier, Khabib Nurmagomedov thanked his fans, especially those who came to watch the fight in papakhas. "I see a lot of papakhas, because this is the culture of not only Dagestan, Chechnya and Ingushetia, but of the whole Northern Caucasus. In the mountains, where I grew up, we wear papakhas. But not because we can wear them; to do this, one needs honour and to be a man. Only real men wear papakhas – women don't wear them," the "Prosto pro sport" (Just about sports) quotes the fighter as saying.
"A flash mob has been launched on the Facebook. Women post their photos in papakhas," says the message sent to the "Caucasian Knot" SMS-service.
The flash mob was initiated by Natalia Savelieva, a resident of Makhachkala. She has called on women to respond to Khabib Nurmagomedov's words about papakhas, and was the first to post her own photo in a papakha.
By 10:40 p.m. Moscow time on September 8, the number of flash mob participants reached at least 18 women.
