Gays’ murder case in Kuban reaches the court

The prosecutor’s office has sent to the court the case to a resident of Kuban (a common name of the Krasnodar Territory by the name of the main river), accused of killing a same-sex couple of pensioners in the Seversky District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2019, the bodies of two pensioners were found in the dwelling settlement of Ilsky. The alleged killer was detained; he said that he was drinking alcohol with the casualties; and they began to pester him. Investigators called homophobia as one of the priority versions. Residents of Ilsky were sure that the pensioners were killed because of their sexual orientation. The fact that investigators have voiced out this version as one of the main ones is a rare case, activists of the LGBT Network have noted. Kuban is a particularly homophobic region, said those gays, who were forced to leave the region after being harassed in their villages.

According to investigators, a 24-year-old young man was drinking alcohol in the house of two pensioners. The elderly house owner tried to take the young man’s trousers off; in response, the guest inflicted "multiple blows" to the elderly man, from which the latter died. The second pensioner, who witnessed the murder, was beaten by the young man with a mop and a metal scoop; the pensioner died on the spot from received wounds.
