"Amnesty International" states racial discrimination in the Krasnodar Territory

On May 3, 2006 the major human rights organization "Amnesty International" presented its report "Russian Federation: Racial-Motivated Violence Orgy." The Krasnodar Territory is repeatedly mentioned in the report in the context of ethnic discrimination and continued practice of unjustified refusal of citizenship to Meskhetian Turks, Hemshils, Kurds, Yazidis, Batumi Kurds (Kurmanch), and Armenians, who escaped from Azerbaijan.

While recognizing the efforts of Russian authorities to eradicate racism, still, the steps made "are obviously insufficient in front of this high level of racial violence." In 2003, the "Amnesty International" drafted a comprehensive and detailed set of guidelines for Russian authorities on how to solve the problem of racism and intolerance in the Russian Federation. During this time, a great number of guidelines have remained failed, and, respectively, continue to remain actual. The "Amnesty International" is calling up Russian authorities to urgently take the following measures targeted at a comprehensive and efficient settling of the racial problem.

The guidelines for the Russian authorities, in particular, propose the following: to ensure an immediate and formal (official) recognition by the authorities in all the regions of the Russian Federation, including the Krasnodar Territory, of the right for citizenship and permanent residence of the persons belonging to minorities; any refusal to provide citizenship and other rights exclusively on the pretext of national belonging shall be inadmissible. Besides, the "Amnesty International" calls to ensure protection and support of human rights activists, runs the message of the Autonomous NGO "Novorossisk Human Rights Committee," received by the editorial board of the "Caucasian Knot."
