ECtHR gives Russian authorities less than four months to respond to Ashikov's complaint

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) requested the Russian authorities to submit a clarification concerning a complaint filed by Ziyavudin Ashikov, the former acting head of the Kaspiysk Police Department, for unreasonable detention in custody. This was reported by advocate Sapiyat Magomedova.

Raip Ashikov, the former Police Chief of Makhachkala, his brother Ziyavudin Ashikov, the former acting head of the Kaspiysk Police Department, and Omar Abdurashidov were arrested. The latter claimed that he was tortured in an attempt to force him to defame the Ashikov brothers. An Omar Abdurashidov's complaint "in connection with torture, threats of torture, and pressure from law enforcers" was filed to the ECtHR on September 3, 2019.

As soon as it became known that the ECtHR had communicated the complaint of Ziyavudin Ashikov, both brothers were transported from the Vladikavkaz SIZO (pre-trial prison) to Dagestan, the advocate noted. According to her, law enforcers subjected the Ashikov brothers to psychological pressure.
