Chechen court's decision to leave children with father causes debates on social network

In Chechnya, contrary to the decision of a Moscow court, a court obliged children of a Moscow woman to live with their father. Instagram users argued about the reasons for such a decision of the court.

On March 6, the court considered a lawsuit filed by 44-year-old Ruslan Ibaev against his former wife Zhanetta Tukhaeva. The court obliged two minor children to live with their father and agreed to restrict the mother's rights. Besides, the court ordered Zhanetta Tukhaeva to close her Instagram account, where she left posts about her sons, the "Kavkaz.Realii" reported.

The woman does not agree with the court's decision. According to her, the former husband did not participate in the upbringing of their youngest son from the age of six months, and she has not seen the eldest son since 2014.

Zhanetta Tukhaeva said that she married Ruslan Ibaev in Moscow in 2009. "Ruslan Ibaev is an Azerbaijani native, but he calls himself a Chechen for some reason," the RT quotes the woman as saying.

In Northern Caucasus, courts often leave children with fathers after divorces of parents. Not all women succeed in obtaining custody rights, reported Svetlana Anokhina, a Dagestani journalist and a human rights defender.

Many authors of comments left on the "Chechnya Life" Instagram public account have argued about whether the woman's demands are fair. "After a divorce, children should stay with their father. Women have completely lost their conscience," wrote, in particular, user ialviev. "By law, a child is to stay with a mother," argues user vesnushka.gro.
