ECtHR communicates complaint in case of Dagestanis killed in Chechnya

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has given three months to Russian authorities and relatives of eight Dagestani residents kidnapped and killed in Chechnya to conclude an amicable agreement. If reconciliation fails, Russian government will have 12 weeks to answer the ECtHR's questions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the residents of Dagestan, Gashim Uzdanov, Pakhrudin Makhaev, Islam Magomedov and Shamil Djamalutdinov disappeared on September 28, 2016, somewhere on the Kaspiysk-Makhachkala highway. On October 4, 2016, Gusein Guseinov, Klych Klychev, Shamil Djamalutdinov and Kamil Djamalutdinov disappeared in Khasavyurt. Law enforcers assert that these people had prepared a terror act and were killed in a shootout.

On June 17, the ECtHR notified the human rights organization "Legal Initiative" about the communication of the complaint regarding the disappearance in 2016 of eight Dagestanis killed in Chechnya.

The applicants believe that law enforcers were involved in disappearances, and this led to an inefficient investigation.
