Dagestani villagers complain to Chechen leader about Muftiat

The followers of Kunta-haji Kishiev from a village in the Khasavyurt District have asked Ramzan Kadyrov to intervene in their conflict with the Dagestani Muftiate. Law enforcers have arrived in the village of Tsiyab-Ichichali; they wouldn't let people to gather in the mosque, the head of the local administration has reported.

Kunta-haji Kishiev is an Islamic preacher of the epoch of the Caucasian War. Ramzan Kadyrov and most of the Chechen officials and religious figures are his followers.

The Dagestani Muftiate has appointed an Imam and Deputy Imam from another village by ignoring the opinions of all Tsiyab-Ichichali villagers, says the video appeal addressed to Kadyrov. According to the author, after the villagers expressed their indignation, law enforcers have banned the Friday collective namaz (prayer).

There is no obvious conflict in the village; there was just a misunderstanding, Vashalav Shagidov, the head of the Tsiyab-Ichichali village, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He has confirmed that on June 19, law enforcers appeared in the village, and explained that their aim was to prevent people crowding and coronavirus spread.

Mr Shagidov has noted that the issue of appointing an Imam has not yet been resolved. He assured that the decision would be made on the basis of a compromise that suits all the villagers. Shagidov has treated the video appeal to Kadyrov as "a hasty action."
