Oppositionist Agil Gumbatov discharged from mental clinic
On July 1, Agil Gumbatov, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was discharged from the psychiatric hospital where he spent three months under forced treatment after he criticized authorities on the Facebook. The activist intends to continue his political struggle.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported Agil had complained about his poor health due to treatment with unknown drugs, but in June he was left for another month of treatment there.
Nemat Kerimli, an advocate, said that he had already sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
Local rights defenders saw in Gumbatov's compulsory treatment "the use of the practice of dissidents' punishing, which was used in the USSR."
Earlier, the human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) demanded to immediately stop the forced treatment of Gumbatov.
