FSB reports detention of extremist unit members in KChR

Five members of an extremist organization in the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) have advocated the creation of a caliphate in Northern Caucasus; they stored weapons and banned literature, the Russian FSB (Federal Security Bureau) said.

Today, the FSB has announced the detention in the KChR of five members of the "At-Takfir Val-Hijra" extremist religious group banned in Russia.

"45 copies of pseudo-religious extremist literature, 10 handwritten texts with lectures of radical preachers, a traumatic gun, ammunition thereto, a rifle, an air pistol and cold weapons were found at their residences and conspiracy gatherings," the TASS reports citing the FSB.

According to investigators, the above Islamists had propagated radical views, recruited new members, urged believers not to recognize the legislation and advocated the creation of an Islamic Caliphate in Northern Caucasus, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
