Armenian analysts report lull after shelling on Azerbaijani border

There are no active battles on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops in the Tavush direction, but the situation remains tense. A new conflict can occur on any border section, including with Nagorno-Karabakh, experts believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 12, the conflict on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border escalated. On July 29, the sides again exchanged accusations of shelling.

In the opinion of Vlad Vartanyan, an expert at the "Orbeli" Analytical-Research Centre, the July aggravation is only a forerunner of "further violations of the ceasefire regime."

The expert also assessed the military advantages that Armenia managed to achieve. According to his story, judging by satellite images, Armenia has improved some positions, in particular, in the vicinity of the village of Movses.

Azerbaijani analysts have also pointed to the risks of fighting restart with Armenia. A new platform for negotiations is needed, since the previous format of the truce has exhausted itself, said Telman Abilov, the head of the NGO "Military Lawyers".

Aik Khachikyan, an analyst at the "Razm.info" portal, also believes that the situation has calmed down and returned to the pre-July 12 level. However, it is difficult to predict how long this calmness will last, the expert has added. He did not rule out a repeated escalation of the situation.
