Activists criticize restrictions on passage of Azerbaijani citizens from Dagestan

The quarantine zone in Azerbaijan contains 250 people brought out of Dagestan on July 28. Azer Mamedov, a camp resident, said about vacant places; and Avtandil Mamedli, an activist, called the reason for this "poor governance in Azerbaijan."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russian-Azerbaijani border is closed due to the pandemic; and the citizens of Azerbaijan, waiting for the departure to their homeland, have to live in a temporary residence set up in a form of a tent camp near the Dagestani village of Kullar. The campers are sent home in groups; lately it is done on a weekly basis.

Azerbaijani citizens arriving from Dagestan are placed into a quarantine camp set up near the Samur border checkpoint. Until the end of the quarantine (it lasts for 7-14 days, depending on the doctors' opinion, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), they are prohibited from contacts with their relatives.

According to Afig Allakhverdiev, the deputy chairman of the Regional National Cultural Autonomy of Azerbaijanis in the Moscow Region, people are sent home in limited groups if there are free places in the camp due to the deficit of the medical personnel.

Avtandil Mamedli, an Azerbaijani activist who lives in Georgia in political emigration, believes that the reason for the delay in solving the issue of returning citizens to their homeland is in "bad governance in Azerbaijan."
