South-Ossetian Parliament failed to set up commission to investigate Inal Djabiev's case

Due to the absence of a group of MPs, who announced a temporary suspension of their work, the Parliament of South Ossetia could not form a commission to investigate the death circumstances of Inal Djabiev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the death of Inal Djabiev, a resident of South Ossetia, who was detained within the case of an attempt on the life of Igor Naniev, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), resulted in resignation of Naniev himself. Eight MIA employees were detained within the case of Djabiev's death.

After Djabiev died on August 28, photos appeared on the Internet with traces of severe beatings on his body. On August 29, sources told about the torture of two other detainees – Nikolai Tskhovrebov and Gennady Kulaev.

At the first after vacations sitting of the Presidium of the South-Ossetian Parliament, it was planned to discuss the creation of a commission to investigate the Djabiev's case. However, on September 8, a group of MPs failed to come to the sitting; and the commission was not created, the "Sputnik-Ossetia" reports.

By sabotaging the work of the Parliament, the missing MPs are hindering the early establishment of the commission, said Alan Tadtaev, the Speaker.

"We see no interest in a fair investigation of this case on the part of some MPs; we see only populist steps of some of our colleagues," the "Alania. Inform" News Agency quoted the Speaker as saying.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
