Social network users refuse to recognize Adygs' Day as holiday
Most events on the Adygs' (Circassians') Day were held in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) in the online mode due to coronavirus. The expediency of the holiday has caused a discussion on the Instagram.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 21, the Remembrance Day of Victims of the Caucasian War, on the initiative of KBR activists, Facebook and Instagram users posted their photos with raised left hands as a sign of sorrow.
Circassians (Adygs) is the name of people in Russia and abroad, divided into Kabardians, Circassians and Adygs. They live in six regions: Adygea, KBR, Karachay-Cherkessia, Krasnodar Territory, North Ossetia and Stavropol Territory.
On the occasion of the Circassians' Day, which has been celebrated on September 20 in the KBR since 2014, films about the life of famous Adygs were screened; and a concert of republic's arts professionals was staged, the TASS has reported.
The largest celebration was held in Baksan, where more than two thousand people in national costumes marched through the city.
The Circassian public refused to recognize the Circassians' Day, because "the Adygs' revival has not yet taken place," says the author of the blog "Women's View from Nalchik" run on the "Caucasian Knot".
"Here are the issues of recognizing the genocide, repatriation of Circassians to their homeland, and the problem of their mother tongue," the blogger has explained.
In the publics, dedicated to the KBR, some users have questioned the need for such a holiday.
"It's a holiday sucked out of the thumb. Certain ideological goals that are disgusting to the people are pursued," the user cmuaed was outraged.
