Azerbaijani authorities fail indicate timeline of receiving citizens from Kullar

The issue of resuming the border crossing of the Azerbaijani citizens waiting for their return to homeland in the Dagestani village of Kullar remains open, a source in the Azerbaijani government has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in connection with the hostilities in the Karabakh conflict zone, departure of another group of Azerbaijani citizens from Kullar scheduled to cross the border on September 29 was cancelled; and Azerbaijani authorities announced that another group of citizens would go their homeland in the coming days.

A temporary accommodation centre (TAC) was set up near the Dagestani village of Kullar for the citizens of Azerbaijan who could not get home because of the borders closed due to coronavirus.

On October 2, a source from the Azerbaijani Govt told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the issue of resuming citizens' passage remains open. "Most likely, the decision will be made early next week," the source said.

In his turn, Afig Allakhverdiev, the spokesman of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Moscow, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Russian authorities are preparing to dismantle the tent camp in Kullar. According to his story, the number of camp residents has decreased.

"But because the passage across the border was stopped, people began to leave the camp, as staying there for a long time in cold weather is impossible. Some of them rent apartments and stay in hotels. Others return to Russian regions," Mr Allakhverdiev has added.
