Stepanakert residents stay in shelters due to fear of shelling attacks
Over the past 24 hours, the situation in Stepanakert has been calm, but city residents still live in shelters, local residents say. People from Stepanakert use mobile phones to stay in contact with their relatives who have left the frontline villages.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 17, a truce came into force in Nagorno-Karabakh, but on the other day, the parties to the conflict again accused each other of shelling attacks.
On October 19, the situation was calm, but the city residents still stay in the shelters, says Juliet Grigoryan, a pensioner. According to her, there are no power outages in the shelter where her family members live and there are no problems with the mobile communication and the Internet connection.
The woman has also noted that during the first Karabakh war, local residents spent more than a year in basements because of air raids.
Her husband Sergey Grigoryan says that residents of the border communities, which are constantly being shelled by Azerbaijan, no longer come to Stepanakert. The man notes that "the people who wanted to leave their homes because of the bombings left them in the early days of the war, while others who decided to stay continue to stay with their community."
